Dagmar B. Epsten is the founder and owner of Epsten Group, recognized in 2011 as one of the Top 300 Small Businesses of the South. In its 20-year history, Epsten Group has grown to a 50-person multidisciplinary architecture and building consulting firm with an international reach and a broad range of services, including Architecture/Interior Design, LEED Consulting/BIM-Based Energy Modeling, Commissioning/Mechanical Engineering, Building Envelope/Roofing/ Waterproofing Consulting and Green Building/Product Certifications according to ISO Guide 65.
Ms. Epsten is a registered architect, certified commissioning authority, certified construction specifier, and LEED specialist. Having worked with LEED since the year 2000, Ms. Epsten is a pioneer and expert in all aspects of LEED, with LEED specialties in Building Design & Construction, Operations & Maintenance, Interior Design & Construction, Neighborhood Development, and Homes. She guides building owners, managers, occupants, and complex project teams toward long-term value and optimized environments. She has been involved as architect or consultant in many endeavors, including multiple-building portfolios, large, complex facilities, campuses, sustainable showcase buildings, and international projects, and has served many government agencies, institutions, corporations, nonprofits, and private clients.
A native of Germany and avid world traveler, Ms. Epsten enjoys international involvement. Epsten Group is the global leader in LEED certification reviews, having provided over 4,000 reviews in over 40 countries. Recent firm experience includes projects in Switzerland, Mexico and Turks & Caicos. She is an active presenter at international conferences, including the Sustainable Building conferences in Oslo, Norway (2002), Tokyo, Japan (2005) and Melbourne, Australia (2008).
Ms. Epsten is a founding member of the USGBC Atlanta chapter and serves on the Board of Directors for Green Chamber of the South. She is the recipient of several sustainable design and achievement awards, including the Construction Specifications Institute’s national Environmental Stewardship Award in 2007.
Ms. Epsten received a diploma engineering degree in architecture along with an award for environmental solutions in Karlsruhe, Germany; her thesis on daylighting was published as a book. She went on to obtain a Masters in Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology and stayed in Atlanta, Georgia. In recent years her firm’s growing international recognition has allowed her to reconnect with Germany through services in the European market.
