Principal/Founding Partner

Environmental Dynamics, Inc.

Biography

Kris is a LEED Accredited Professional, Architect, Principal and Founding Partner of Environmental Dynamics, Incorporated (edi), an architecture and sustainability consulting firm. She has been a registered architect since 1999 and a LEED AP since 2002. She is also a US Green Building Council LEED Faculty member and Biomimicry Specialist.

As the partner in charge of edi’s sustainability consulting services, Kris manages their building optimization services, which include LEED consulting, energy and daylight modeling, water budgeting and material management. Kris has developed practices that provide communication criteria for and assure quality on all of edi’s projects, which range from architectural design to A/E/C consultation. These standards define deliverables and provide a framework for the integration of sustainability with architecture and construction schedules, as well as offer a preferred format for internal communication and with client teams.

Kris was a pioneer of LEED in the southwestern U.S. She was the LEED AP for the first LEED Certified building in New Mexico and nationally for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the first LEED Silver building in Albuquerque, the first LEED Certified school in Arizona, and the first LEED Silver hospital in Oklahoma. Edi’s office in Albuquerque is LEED-NC Gold and their office in Florida is LEED-CI Gold. Between 2002 and 2010, Kris has worked on approximately 60 projects applying for various levels of LEED certification, including several LEED Platinum buildings.

In addition to practicing architecture and providing consultation, Kris facilitates workshops and teaches classes on LEED and green building. Highlights include a course on sustainable design through the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning, the National Council of Construction Education and Research (NCCER) course titled Your Role in the Green Environment, and a community workshop to facilitate the implementation of the New Mexico Governor’s Green Building Executive Order. In addition to teaching, Kris has been invited to speak at numerous engagements around the country.

Kris is an active volunteer. She was on the steering committee that founded the USGBC-New Mexico chapter, and is involved with their education committee as the Faculty Liaison. She is a founding board member of Elevate, a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop evolving strategies for the reconciliation of community and the environment. She serves on the Association of General Contractor’s Construction Leadership Committee, and is a former board member of the New Mexico Recycling Coalition. She is also a member of the AIA Albuquerque’s Architecture 2030 program committee. Kris regularly mentors students from the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning.
