Biography
Mario’s origins are rooted in Sri Lanka, where professionals strive for a sustainable built environment which is a way of life. Recognition as a LEED Fellow complements this tradition to strive for sustainability excellence. A graduate, Summa Cum Laude from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA and a Masters degree from the same university, Mario is a Professional Engineer with registration in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and has been a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers UK, since 1991.
His experience in LEED dates way back to 1998. The USGBC’s Pilot Program LEED Version 1 which merited the Sri Lanka’s Kandalama Hotel, is the first building outside of continental USA to be certified as a LEED building and the first hotel in the world to be LEED certified, falls to his credit. This prompted him to further achieve a Gold Certification for the Wafi City District Cooling Chiller Plant in 2006 which is also a first in the Middle East.
He is actively involved in spreading awareness and capacity building in the Middle East, on topics related to Sustainable Design and Engineering, Green Buildings and LEED, Energy and Water Conservation and Low Carbon Emission Buildings.
In addition, as LEED Faculty, and as a USGBC Education Delivery Partner, Mario conducts LEED Education Programs in the Middle East and Asia Regions.
A father of two daughters and a grandfather of four grandkids, Mario lives with his wife in Dubai UAE and heads Green Technologies, a member company of the Integral Group of deep green engineers, committed to sustainability.
