Nellie Cheng has followed a distinguished path of public service in Canada and the United States for more than 30 years and established a track record in global business development and sustainability.

Nellie Cheng serves as Managing Director at GBCI Canada. She is also working with World Green Building Council and Canada Green Building Council promoting and implementing sustainability after serving as Economic Development Director at the City of Prince Rupert in the Province of British Columbia, Canada.

P. GopalaKrishnan

As Regional Director of GBCI India, Gopalakrishnan manages business and market development of LEED and other GBCI rating systems for the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.

His expertise includes corporate strategy, international market expansion, branding, and business unit creation.

An alumnus of College of Engineering, Guindy and IIM Kolkata, he has more than 20 years of corporate experience in Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.

Kay Killmann

Managing Director, GBCI Europe
Kay Killmann is founder and President of the German Green Building Association (GGBA), a non-profit advocating the LEED benchmark in Germany and throughout Europe. Kay represents Germany at the LEED International Round Table and collaborates extensively with his regional counterparts to ensure LEED’s successful integration into European code and building practices.

Mili Majumdar

Managing Director, GBCI India
Mili is Managing Director of Green Business Certification Institute Pvt Ltd, India and Senior Vice President, USGBC. In her current role Mili is responsible for technical adaptation and customization of the portfolio of rating systems of GBCI for the Asia Pacific region. She is also responsible for customer coordination, education, training, and developing market mechanisms for adoption of the tools and rating systems for the region.

Thomas Mueller

Thomas Mueller is President & CEO and Founding Director of the Canada Green Building Council. In this role he leads national green building strategy, programs and standards along with advocacy and policy efforts. He is currently participating in the LEED International Roundtable, the WGBC Americas Network; Quest National Advisory Committee, City of Vancouver’s Green Building Advisory Committee and the Dean’s Advisory Committee, Environmental Studies, U. of Waterloo.

Liberty Munson

Liberty Munson, PhD, is the Principal Psychometrician for Microsoft Learning’s technical certification program. Prior to joining Microsoft, she worked at Boeing where she developed a wide variety of selection tests, assisted with the development and analysis of Boeing’s internal certification exams, and managed their Employee Survey. She received her BS in Psychology from Iowa State University and her MA and PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with minors in Quantitative Psychology and Human Resource Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Andy To

Managing Director, GBCI North Asia
Andy To leads the local GBCI presence in China, facilitating the global growth of a sustainable built environment locally and across the globe. Andy comes to GBCI China from CBRE where he was managing director of Asset Services for Greater China. He has more than 20 years of experience in the property and asset management industry with a particular focus on properties and facilities in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and second tier cities. He also worked at Kerry Property Management Beijing and Sino Estates Management Limited.

GBCI is the only certification and credentialing body within the green business and sustainability industry to exclusively administer project certifications and professional credentials of LEED, EDGE, GRESB, Parksmart, PEER, SITES, TRUE and WELL.

Credentialing Programs

GBCI credentials consist of competency exams and certificate programs. The GBCI credentialing team consists of program managers, test developers and psychometricians who design, develop and maintain the credentialing exams.

The exams are constructed using rigorous test development best practices to assess whether working professionals have the minimum competencies to perform their jobs. GBCI credentials require ongoing maintenance to encourage credentialed professionals to participate in learning experiences that demonstrate continued competency and up-to-date industry knowledge.

GBCI has received and maintained Personnel Certification accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) since 2011. Accreditation ensures that a certification agency meets a recognized standard for the programs and services it employs, and that the certification agency is engaged in continuous review and quality improvement.


GBCI develops and administers the ANSI-accredited LEED professional credential exams, which include the LEED Green Associate and LEED AP with specialty credentials.

The WELL AP provides professionals with the opportunity to demonstrate advanced knowledge in human health and wellness in the built environment. WELL APs have a documented, full understanding of the industry’s latest principles and practices, along with a specialization in the WELL Building Standard program.

The SITES AP is the first credential specifically targeted to those who work and care for land and its resources and communities. The credential establishes a common framework to define the profession of sustainable landscape design and development, and also provides landscape professionals with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, expertise and commitment to the profession. The exam was built on the expertise of leading practitioners and is intended to test a candidate’s competency to perform the job functions of a SITES AP.

City Climate Planner

The City Climate Planner program helps city staff and their partners develop the skills needed to advance local climate action in cities worldwide. The Urban Greenhouse Gas Inventory Specialist credential focuses on community-level greenhouse gas emissions inventory accounting, which is a key building block in developing quality climate action plans. It is geared toward practitioners developing city and community-scale greenhouse gas inventories and is based on the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (GPC), the most comprehensive global protocol for calculating and reporting GHG inventories.

Certificate programs

Green Rater

Green Raters perform onsite verification services for LEED BD+C: Homes and Lowrise and LEED BD+C: Multifamily Rating Systems. They provide verification services; serve as a liaison between GBCI and the Project Team; and prepare the project’s certification application for review by a LEED for Homes Provider Quality Assurance Designee.
