About LEED and GBCI
The U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating Systems promote sustainable building and development practices by recognizing projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance. An internationally-recognized green building certification system, LEED is flexible and applies to all building types.
GBCI manages building certification and credentialing exams to the LEED standard. The LEED Green Associate and LEED AP with specialty exams have been accredited under the ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 for personnel certification bodies. ANSI accreditation is designed to increase the integrity, confidence and mobility of certified professionals.

In 2010, USGBC launched the International Program to make LEED more relevant around the world. It addresses regional differences and provides alternatives for projects outside of the USA.
