Sarah Alexander

As Vice President of Certification Sarah is responsible for the oversight and management of the Green Building Certification Institute’s (GBCI) global certification activities for delivering certifications for the entire suite of LEED rating systems, the WELL Building Standard and PEER rating system. During her tenure at GBCI Sarah took a leadership role in the recruitment, training and development of a dynamic team of technical experts including industry leaders in the fields of architecture, engineering, urban planning and sustainable design to develop an internal center of technical excellence. Under Sarah’s leadership GBCI has issued ten times the number of LEED certifications than were issued in the nine years prior to GBCI’s involvement, while at the same time improving the timeliness, technical accuracy, consistency and overall quality of the certification work product.

Prior to joining USGBC in 2008, Sarah worked in a small architectural practice with a focus on low-income housing in Washington DC. Her professional career began in the United Kingdom where she worked for six years as an exploration geologist and geophysicist. Sarah holds Bachelor of Science degrees (Honors) in both Geology and Architecture.
