GBCI MENA was established in Dubai to serve teams throughout the Middle East and North Africa region pursuing LEED certification through education, technical support, events, and celebrating achievements.
LEED certification in MENA
LEED is the most widely used green building system in the world in part because it can be regionally adapted while still providing a powerful global standard. Today, nearly 4600 projects in the MENA region are using LEED.
- Dubai is home to the world’s first LEED Platinum certified mosque, the DEWA Solar Innovation Centre in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is certified LEED Platinum, and the City of Dubai was awarded LEED Platinum.
- In Egypt, the Schneider Electric HQ in Cairo was awarded LEED Gold.
- Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Project has earned “Plan & Design,” LEED Platinum, which is the first stage of the LEED for Cities certification process, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has the highest concentration of LEED buildings in the Middle East.
