The latest featured company in our ongoing LEED On video series, K Raheja Corp. is an early participant in the Indian green building movement. The corporation has been advancing sustainability in the real estate sector with LEED-certified projects across various portfolios, such as residential, commercial, hospitality and retail.
K Raheja Corp’s commercial office, Mindspace, located in Airoli, Mumbai, exemplifies sustainability by achieving LEED Gold certification in the Core + Shell category. “Mindspace Airoli encompasses 13 green buildings, amounting to 40 million square feet of LEED-certified green building space in Mumbai. This is one of the largest [group of] green buildings in one location that any developer in India has constructed,” said Shabbir Kanchwala, Senior Vice President, K Raheja Corp.
Initiatives such as use of water-cooled chillers, rainwater harvesting, a sewage treatment plant, low-flow fixtures and LED lighting ensure energy and water conservation, while organic waste is converted into manure and vermicompost.
K Raheja Corp has also explored the net zero building concept and geothermal energy for its various Mindspace buildings across the country. Recently, K Raheja Corp’s IT building in Whitefield, Bengaluru, achieved a LEED Gold rating with a total of 64 points.
