Award recipients represent diverse expertise from across the green building industry
Washington, D.C.—(April 18, 2018)—Today, USGBC announced the recipients of its first-ever Greenbuild Europe Leadership Awards. The Leadership Awards recognize outstanding individuals and organizations at the forefront of the green building movement. The recipients will be honored at USGBC’s Greenbuild Europe conference held in Berlin, Germany, during the closing plenary on April 18, 2018.
“By celebrating these Leadership Awards, we have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on leaders in the green building industry throughout Europe who have positively impacted the lives of others through their important work,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, President and CEO of USGBC and GBCI. “These leaders have done exemplary work to uplift their communities through their passion for the environmental, health, economic and social benefits of green building.”
This year’s leadership award recipients are
- Anna Denell, Sustainability Director at Vasakronan, who has been instrumental in transforming the Swedish property industry and in advancing high-performing buildings in Europe. Under her leadership, Vasakronan has become a global leader in green building and a carbon-neutral company. Vasakronan’s use of LEED volume certification and commitment to pursuing LEED for 100 percent of its portfolio serves as a model for the international community.
- Technopolis, the first company in Finland to participate in LEED volume certification for existing buildings, and only the second worldwide to start using LEED v4 for volume certifications. Technopolis has succeeded in achieving LEED certification with over 40 percent of its properties to date.
- Saint-Gobain, which designs, manufactures and distributes materials and solutions—key ingredients in well-being and the future of all. These ingredients can be found everywhere, in living places and daily life: in buildings, transportation, infrastructure and many industrial applications. Saint-Gobain solutions provide comfort, performance and safety while addressing the challenges of sustainable construction, resource efficiency and climate change. The company is constantly innovating to help create buildings that delight occupants while preserving the natural environment.
USGBC’s 12,000 national member organizations, its more than 201,000 global LEED professional credential holders and its network of local leaders across the United States and throughout the world are at the heart of its mission of market transformation through the LEED green building program. Currently, there are more than 93,000 commercial projects participating in LEED, comprising nearly 19.8 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 167 countries and territories.
“We are excited to recognize three trailblazers who are raising the bar when it comes to creating healthier, more sustainable buildings, communities and cities,” said Kay Killmann, managing director, GBCI Europe. “It is because of the leadership of pioneering individuals and companies that our vision of green buildings for all within this generation can become a reality. These leaders are truly transforming the green building industry and inspiring other business leaders to be proactive in the areas of social responsibility and sustainability.”
